A Liar Exposed: Britain Must Stop All Arms Sales To Israel

“The calls for support are not for abstract words of diplomatic solidarity, but for urgent action that helps us feel human in the eyes of the world.”

Mohammed R Mhawish is a Palestinian writer and journalist, based in Gaza City.

Q. What does Sky, Channel 4 and the FT have in common?

A. They have all had the temerity to pull apart Israel’s ‘evidence’ that claimed UNRWA is some sort of a Hamas-front, rather than the largest distributor of vital lifesaving aid, slap bang in the middle of the world’s most devastating humanitarian disaster.

“The Israeli intelligence documents make several claims that Sky News has not seen proof of and many of the claims, even if true, do not directly implicate Unrwa."

Britain - eternally comfortable in its role as a loyal subject of the Knessett - knew the allegations wouldn’t stack up.

Israel alleged that 10% of the UNRWA’s 13,000 employees in Gaza were "affiliated with Hamas or the Palestinian Islamic Jihad", and that "50% are first-degree relatives of a Hamas operative".

Despite its obvious ludicrousness, Britain went along with the plan in the full knowledge the Israeli government had already declared its intent to target and eliminate UNRWA prior to its allegation.

Rare credit must go to the media outlets that no longer believe Tel Aviv’s routine manipulation of the truth.

Journalists that step out of their comfort zone to expose the truth are few and far between - even as a “plausible” genocide is happening on their watch.

Why? I’ll give you just one name and you will understand why.

Julian Assange.

Just imagine how much more information we would have about Israel’s crimes against humanity if Assange was a free man.

For example: Back in 2014, a WikiLeaks document revealed Israel was interested in empowering Hamas in an attempt to end the first Intifada because Hamas “serves as a useful counter-force.”

The Western media - astonishingly loyal to the cult of Zionism - will only portray a narrative that they want you to believe, even if their version of events is a plethora of lies and deceit that is designed to dehumanise the Palestinian people, and ultimately serve as a cover for Israel’s genocide.

How many Western media outlets were quick to point out the UNRWA is entirely separate from the UN’s main refugee agency, the UNHCR, and deals only with Palestinian refugees? It was Israel and its Western bodyguards that wanted this division back in 1948.

These small, but extremely vital snippets of information add context, and this is what helps people form a more rounded opinion.

The callous and wholly unwarranted defunding of UNRWA has very little to do with Hamas and everything to do with eradicating the Palestinian people so Jebb from Connecticut can house his family in a nice new apartment overlooking Gaza beach.

Early in its war on Gaza, Israel, without a shred of reliable evidence, sought to delegitimise hospitals and claimed they were operating as "command and control centres" for Hamas.

Israel, with the help of the Western media and the army of genocide-defending Hasbara accounts painted hospitals as entirely legitimate targets and destroyed them across Gaza.

The attacks on UNRWA, both financially and militarily, follow exactly the same playbook as the destruction of the healthcare system in Gaza with the same intended end goal: to destroy a vital lifeline for the Palestinian people while screaming “but…Hamas” to anyone that’s naive enough to believe them.

David Cameron was reportedly naive enough.

The British Foreign Secretary suspended UNRWA funding “only on the basis of information in the public domain”. He didn’t think of asking Israel for credible evidence.

Canada also didn’t bother asking for evidence and still hadn’t seen any evidence as of February 7th. Isn’t that slightly worrying?

And then there’s the European Union which has said it is awaiting the outcome of a UN investigation before its funding is due at the end of the month. They are yet to receive evidence from Israel to corroborate the allegations against UNRWA.

The defunding of UNRWA is no less than a cowardly, evil longstanding plan to deny Palestinians of humanitarian aid. Israel are trying to starve a population to death.

I’ll take a punt and predict the UNRWA fiasco will eventually go the same way as the ‘forty beheaded babies’ and ‘we don’t target hospitals’, because the evidence supplied by Israel is always flimsier than a damp fag paper.

Britain’s unquestionable loyalty to the pariah state of Israel is a stain on our collective humanity.

The Butcher of Gaza, Netanyahu stated just this week that Israel will not stop until they achieve a total victory. Just don’t ask the satanic killer what total victory looks like because he hasn’t got a clue.

But in rejecting a ceasefire deal, which would’ve seen the release of all of the Israeli hostages that have survived the occupation bombing, Netanyahu has surely left Britain with little option but to suspend all arms sales to Israel with immediate effect.

Britain must draw a line under its involvement in ethnic cleansing and genocide. The government might not be better than this, but we are, and we will not stop demanding a ceasefire and an end to the illegal occupation.

The eyes of the world are now firmly focused on Rafah, a Palestinian city close to the border with Egypt.

Israeli forces have spent several weeks insisting Rafah would be a safe zone, but they did the same in Gaza City and Khan Younis, forcing the Palestinians further south with every bomb.

But the safe zone of Rafah, with more than a million humans staying in tents and a humanitarian crisis beyond imagination, is now a target for Israeli war planes.

Israel wants to force the Palestinian people into the Egyptian desert. Out of sight and out of mind.

Once the bombs have turned Rafah into yet another children’s graveyard, the bloodthirsty Israeli occupation forces will enter Rafah to finish what they started on October 7. Vile bastards.

Not the publicly-stated defeat of Hamas - that’s not the plan because Israel knows it is impossible - but the not-so-publicly-stated goal of ethnically cleansing Gaza.

I started with the words of the Palestinian journalist, Mohammed R Mhawish, and we will finish with his words:

“I write to equip you with the knowledge of what humanity is undergoing. We the Palestinians of Gaza are being starved, are sleeping on the streets with no cover from air strikes.

We are being denied our humanity by an army that continues to inflict some of the most painful and inhumane practices of war we know in our modern day.”

Until next time,

Rachael
