The State Of Israel: The Very Definition Of Collective Evil

After 171 days of genocide and ethnic cleaning in Gaza, the United Nations Security Council finally adopted Resolution 2728 (2024) - demanding an immediate ceasefire for the month of Ramadan, leading to a lasting sustainable ceasefire.

I’m afraid I couldn’t celebrate the news with much enthusiasm, simply because Israel is already contravening over 30 UN Security Council resolutions dating back to 1968.

Also, since the creation of the United Nations Human Rights Council in 2006, it has resolved almost as many resolutions condemning Israel alone than on issues for the rest of the world combined.

Ever since its formation in May 1948, Israel has refused to abide by any of the UN resolutions on Palestine and the occupied territories, whether passed by the General Assembly or the Security Council. What makes anyone think they will listen now?

Israel is above international law because international law has allowed Israel to act outside of the same rules as the rest of the world for way too long.

Israel’s refusal to implement the latest UN Security Council resolution is entirely consistent with its record in the last seven decades of arrogantly disregarding international laws.

It’s not just Israel on trial at the International Court of Justice. Decades of constantly undermining the mandate of multilateral global institutions has left international law on trial itself.

Following the Nakba of 1948, when over 750,000 Palestinians were forced out of their homes, villages, and farms, the UN General Assembly adopted Resolution 194 (III) — establishing the right of all Palestinian refugees to return.

Ask a Zionist for a progress report.

Back in 2003, the UN General Assembly adopted Resolution 10/13 which called Israel’s construction of a separation wall, more commonly known as the “apartheid wall” in the occupied West Bank, as illegal and a violation of existing international law.

Twenty one years later the apartheid wall remains in place, because Israel is a racist, apartheid state that systematically persecutes, maims and murders some of the poorest people on earth with some of the most sophisticated weaponry known to humankind.

The Hasbara war machine is still attempting, and epically failing to control, shape and distort the narrative of every face of Israel’s barbaric, genocidal actions.

One of the key functions of modern Hasbara is to depict poor little Israel as the victim, and even the underdog. The pariah state of Israel is a nuclear-armed superpower with huge support from the US and Europe. They are not the victims. They are the victimisers.

Hasbara’s purpose is very simple. They want you to believe Israel is fighting a war for its national survival, which in turn is used to justify the unrestrained barbarity of its military attacks on the besieged Gaza Strip.

Thirty years ago, Israel would have carried out this brutal extermination of human life with near impunity, because we didn’t really have a great deal more than Kate Adie in a tin hat when it came to news.

Whoever thought the evolution of a pocket-sized telephone would end up being the missing link between a genocide of an unfathomable scale and any semblance of justice for the Palestinian people, and humanity as a whole?

The unimaginable horror of a live-streamed genocide, hysterically celebrated by its perpetrators and Israel’s supporters, is the very definition of collective evil.

Israel has openly stated its genocidal aims. Israeli government ministers have made no secret of their intentions to destroy Gaza to pave the way for new illegal settlements.

For example, on October 12 Isaac Herzog, the President of Israel, stated, “It is an entire nation out there that is responsible. It is not true this rhetoric about civilians not aware, not involved. It is absolutely not true”.

“It is an entire nation out there that is responsible”.

On October 9th, the Israeli defence minister Yoav Gallant said, “We are fighting human animals and we are acting accordingly”, and, the day after, Gallant told Israel troops, “I have released all restraints. Gaza won’t return to what it was before. There will be no Hamas. We will eliminate everything.”

“We will eliminate everything”.

More than 500 statements of genocidal intent were presented to the International Court of Justice in The Hague. This is just 2 confessions.

Another function of Hasbara is to justify the targeting of civilian infrastructure and the consequent civilian deaths. This is used to shift the blame for unimaginably large numbers of civilian deaths from Israel to Hamas.

You use social media. Give it a try. Post something about the unprecedented cruelty of the modern-day Nazi state of Israel and how they intentionally kill and maim innocent Palestinians for fun, before boasting about it on Instagram.

As soon as you see a reply about blaming Hamas, and Israel taking the greatest of care as they go about wiping out humanity, you know that you have got a paid troll looking to make money out of your activism.

Israel has done nothing to address the latest UN Security Council resolution. They continue to use starvation as a weapon of war, and they continue to drop huge bombs on an already brutally-displaced, but remarkably resilient population.

So let us call genocide, genocide. Let us not minimise or normalise the deliberate murder of 32,500 people, a majority of whom are innocent women and children.

The UN has failed to take any steps to make sure its resolutions are implemented by Israel, mostly because of veto holding countries such as the US standing behind Israel and providing them with the impunity to carry out wicked, grave violations of international law without fear of any repercussions.

The 20th century was supposed to teach us just how far unbridled evil can and will go when the world fails to confront it head on. It is time that we heed the lessons of the 20th century and stand up to Israel, the perpetrators of genocide in the 21st century.

Until next time,

Rachael
