Shamefully on the Wrong Side of History: Where is Starmer’s Humanity?

“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”

What a truly disastrous and heartbreaking week it has been for humanity. I hope that’s something that most of us can agree upon.

Israeli civilians have been murdered, Palestinian civilians have been murdered. The only winners of this bloody battle will be the arms manufacturers.

It really shouldn’t be controversial to suggest the life of a Palestinian child is worth the same as the life of an Israeli child, should it?

While the Telegraph took the decision to show the body of a murdered Israeli baby it is only on social media that you will see lifeless Palestinian babies pulled from underneath a pile of concrete and dust.

Can we not just agree that both of these tragic wastes of human life are equally both so very wrong or are we now at the point of no return? Where is our compassion? Where is our humanity?

The Israeli occupation has responded to the deplorable atrocities of Hamas by collectively punishing the 2.2 million residents of Gaza - the world's largest open air prison.

The blockade of water, electricity and food supplies to Gaza is contrary to international human rights law and a violation of Article 33 of the Geneva Convention, but history has taught us that genocidal Israel has absolutely no regard for international law.

But the primary reason for today’s blog isn’t really any different to most weeks, although that won’t be the last mention of the Israel - Hamas conflict by any means.

“It was both the hardest and the best leader’s speech I have heard in 20 years”, said Peter Mandelson to an obedient BBC reporter, Nicholas Wat.

The mainstream media love speaking with anti-socialist Mandelson but they never seem to ask him about his friend, Jeffrey Epstein. Why is this?

Mandelson once told an event hosted by the Jewish Chronicle that he worked “every single day in some small way to bring forward the end of his (Corbyn’s) tenure in office”.

One of the many reasons the British establishment wouldn’t allow Jeremy Corbyn a sniff of power is because they didn’t want a Prime Minister that was sympathetic to the humanitarian plight of the Palestinian people.

I can’t even begin to imagine what it would be like to have a Prime Minister that calls out war crimes for what they are because the utterly dishonest response from Rishi Sunak - supported by Keir Starmer - would appear to be designed to legitimise the slaughter of innocent human beings.

You have seen the same footage as me. You have seen the leader of the opposition - a former human rights lawyer no less - promote and approve of war crimes.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to convey my disgust for the disgraceful sellout of a warmongering Labour leader.

Okay, it’s fair to say I haven’t been Starmer’s biggest fan since he conned his way into the top job, but even I didn’t think he could stoop this low.

The global establishment was quick enough to call out the targeting of Ukrainian civilian infrastructure when Putin’s forces cut off water, electricity, and even heating as the harsh winter months approached.

So why oh why will they only call out collective punishment when it suits them? Does one act of terror suddenly deserve another?

Starmer’s capitulation to the Israel lobby isn’t a new thing, but supporting war crimes from a position of opposition leaves terrifying thoughts as to what he might be capable of in power.

As a former Labour campaigner and voter I feel nothing but disgust and shame for what the Labour Party has become under the leadership of the British security state asset, Keir Starmer.

Keir Starmer, the alleged former human rights lawyer, is either incredibly foolish and doesn’t understand international law or he is quite literally not just turning a blind eye to Israeli atrocities but is wholeheartedly endorsing the mass slaughter of innocent Palestinian civilians.

My money is on the latter.

Starmer’s foreign policy would seem to be based around the principle of an eye for an eye. But a leader of wisdom would know that this violent principle will eventually leave the whole world blind.

The Labour Party conference was unsurprisingly dominated by events in the Middle East. But this didn’t stop the billionaire media giving Starmer the much sought after vote of confidence.

I doubt a huge number of people bothered listening to what Starmer had to say anyway. They know they want the Tories out and they’d happily vote for anything that makes that possibility become a reality.

I certainly didn’t take any of it in beyond some chap throwing a bit of glitter over the anti-Palestinian hawk. But even that looked like a set-up. Thank god I’ve got friends that can stomach the disingenuous “I’m working class, just like you” bullshit.

The man of the people routine worked well for fellow right-wing establishment favourites such as Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage, but Starmer’s own approval ratings are in negative territory because he is quite simply unlikable.

It’s not just Starmer that displays this stupefying ignorance towards the plight of humanity.

The right-wing shadow chancellor, Rachel Reeves gleefully announced that the Labour Party has “no time” for people cheering the Palestinian cause. If you’re cheering the Israeli genocide she’ll most likely invite you for a business breakfast.

Labour front-bencher Afzal Khan was forced to issue an apology after he was photographed standing in front of a Palestinian Solidarity Campaign stall at the Labour Party conference.

Read that again: Khan had to apologise for showing solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Just yesterday it was announced that the International Centre of Justice for Palestinians (ICJP) has written a notice of intention to prosecute UK government officials, for aiding and abetting war crimes in Gaza.

Keir Starmer has quite clearly aligned himself with the Tory position of unconditional support for the apartheid state of Israel, and history will not be kind to the politicians that are advocating genocide in Gaza.

But anyone that has followed the Labour Party’s dramatic ideological repositioning over recent years will already be aware that Keir Starmer turned his back on the Palestinian people some time ago.

If Starmer is willing to condemn the atrocities committed by Hamas he should be equally willing to call out the genocide of Gaza.

But what would the Labour Friends of Israel say?

Personally, I couldn’t care less.

The only path to a just and lasting peace is an end to the occupation. Until this is achieved we will undoubtedly witness the tragic loss of more innocent lives, both Israeli and Palestinian, and this cycle of despair will never end.

Until next time,

Rachael
