All I Want For Christmas Is An Opposition That Speaks For Me

Image
I want an opposition that vociferously opposes Tory austerity, one that boldly exposes it for the failed political choice that it is. Austerity didn’t save a penny, and it has cost hundreds of thousands of precious irreplaceable lives.  I want an opposition that will stand up to the dogmatic ideologues that have systematically destroyed the social fabric of this country, not stand next to them in silent acquiescence. This isn’t optional. I want an opposition that unashamedly gives every minuscule drop of solidarity that they can muster up to the low-paid working classes that haven’t seen a proper pay rise for twice as long as Keir Starmer has been an MP.  I want an opposition that doesn’t possess the words “difficult decisions” in its political vocabulary. The nurses pay rise would cost around 1/20th of what the British people coughed up for the ludicrously useless Serco test and trace system, and nearly £5 billion less than Sunak’s bank tax giveaways.  I want an opposition that help

Happy Xmas (Class War Isn’t Over) - Support The Strikes

It’s no secret that I think the emergence of the RMT Secretary General, Mick Lynch, is probably one of the best things to have happened in 2022.  Authentic leaders such as Lynch are a rarity.  You are being told that Lynch is ruining your Christmas, but let’s be honest, are the striking rail workers really ruining your Christmas, or do you think the Tories cost of greed crisis that’s left most of us struggling to get by is to blame for much of the misery that we face today?  You are being told that Lynch is an enemy of the people, the Mail call him “Mick Grinch”, and the rest of the toxic right-wing media insist Lynch is somehow an obstacle to the aspirations of “hard-working people”.  Isn’t this a depressingly familiar narrative?  How long before Mr Lynch is called an antisemite? Perhaps an IRA sympathiser, what with his Irish roots?  The brass neck of these fuckers is astonishing. They gave you Boris Johnson, the disgraced corrupt criminal Boris Johnson. Why would their opinion of

Starmer: Standing Up For The Powerful Against The Powerless

Constantly choosing the lesser of two evils is still choosing evil.  You can hold your nose and grit your teeth if you wish, it is your right to do so, but I am a socialist and I cannot give my vote to a man and a party that has done more to attack socialism and socialists than the Conservatives.  I appreciate the importance of getting the Tories out more than most. I played my part in launching #GTTO some time ago - oddly enough, many of the people that use the tag on Twitter these days used to prefer screaming #FBPE at us.  Isn’t it strange how getting the Tories out between 2015 and 2019 wasn’t a priority for the same people that insist it’s the only thing that matters today?  The last five years didn’t need to happen.  We didn’t need to have one of the worst responses in the world to the arrival of Covid-19.  We didn’t need to hand over billions of your money to any old Tom, Dick, and Harry with links to the Conservative party.  We didn’t need to go through the grotesque scandal th

Labour For Sale: Even Tory Donors Are Giving Their Money To Starmer

It’s beginning to look a lot like the Labour Party is for sale this Christmas.  Keir Starmer is desperate to move Labour away from a heavy reliance on union funding because he doesn’t want his version of the Labour Party to feel like or look like they owe any favours to the poor and low-paid working classes that once recognised the Labour Party as their natural political home.  I don’t know about you, but when I buy something I expect it to serve a purpose.  Are we supposed to believe a multi-millionaire hedge fund boss that hands over large sums of money to the Labour Party and its shadow cabinet members isn’t going to want something for his sizeable investment?  John Armitage, who founded Egerton Capital, ended his association with the Conservatives in 2020 after donating £3.1 million to the Tories and has since made several donations to Labour.  Super-loaded Mr Armitage - worth a mere £600 million - has given £12,500 to Keir Starmer, £15,000 to shadow health secretary, Wes Screechin
