The Peace And Justice Project: Picking Up The Baton Of Socialism

It’s *the* big day.

The day so many of us have been waiting for.

I don’t know about you, but I could barely sleep last night.

That’s right, today is the long-awaited top of the table battle between Jurgen’s young champions, Liverpool, and Ole’s top of the table army, Manchester United.

Jokes.

Today is the 17th January 2021, and of course.”, it is the big live launch of Jeremy Corbyn’s Peace and Justice Project.

You could well be reading this after the event, such is the nature of social media, so I’ll try not to go on about the launch too much, because you’ve probably already enjoyed it.

Wasn’t it fantastic?

The line-up for the launch already had the inspiring Zarah Sultana, the formidable Len McCluskey, the sharply-dressed economist Yanis Varoufakis, and the boss man himself, Jeremy Corbyn.

But then something absolutely amazing happened.

Who is the greatest linguist, philosopher, cognitive scientist, historian, social critic, and political activist we’ve ever witnessed?

Clue 1: he is often called "the father of modern linguistics”.

Clue 2: he is a major figure in analytic philosophy and one of the founders of the field of cognitive science.

Clue 3: He is possibly one of the most quoted individuals I have ever seen on memes across the internet.

Clue 4: He once said of Labour’s antisemitism ‘crisis-

“Corbyn takes a position which is critical of Israeli crimes, of Israeli human rights violations… this is being used as a basis for defamatory charges in my view”.

And…

“I think he (Corbyn) is a very decent, good person. I’ve followed his career for some years”.

Have you guessed? Are you thinking Wes Streeting? Maybe Tony Blair?

Yes, alright, you knew already, but come on, I mean Noam Chomsky?! This would be like Beyoncé opening your new Lidl’s store, or Gordon Ramsey serving you at your local chippy. But bigger and better.

Essentially, you have got an utterly brilliant line-up in support of an absolutely fantastic human being and his new Peace and Justice Project.

The project itself is so typical of Jeremy Corbyn. He is using his platform to raise awareness, seek accountability, bring people together, and fight every injustice wherever we may find it.

It wouldn’t be unreasonable to call these “Labour values”, but the current version of the Labour Party - they who believe in the language of bomb-first-ask-questions-later and austerity for the many - is led by a man with zero moral compass.

Someone should ask Keith what he has said about the ongoing illegal occupation of Palestine since he blagged his way into the top job, some nine months ago.

When he’s not answered that one, ask him what he has had to say about the Saudi bombardment of Yemen, using British bombs, British planes, and British military expertise.

And when he has sidestepped that one, ask Keith what he thinks about the suicide-causing Work Capability Assessment, created by New Labour, admistered by friends of New Labour, ATOS, to punish the poor and disabled people of Britain.

The last I heard, Mr Starmer believed in some sort of work capability assessment, despite campaigning on two socialist manifestos that promised to scrap the monstrous scheme.

That’s why we need a Peace and Justice project.

Jeremy Corbyn is absolutely right to launch this project, because the Labour Party should be the natural home for peace and justice, rather than the temporary accommodation for the neoliberals, the warmongers, the racists, the smearers, the schemers and the utterly loathsome lying careerist snakes.

Hope I made myself clear there.

I fully expect plenty of negative media coverage. It’s Jeremy Corbyn. Vast swathes of the British establishment will not rest until they break the man into pieces. They better get used to not resting. Corbyn isn’t going anywhere in a hurry.

It’s remarkable really, a former Labour leader launches a project promoting peace and justice, and the media tell you that he is an absolute monster that wants to give you all a nasty dose of Brazilian Covid.

But then you look at another former Labour leader, Tony Blair, whose very own little project took £9 million from the House of Saud - you know, those people who execute journalists, political activists, men, women and children - and the media tell you that he is the great respected Tony St. Blair, epidemiologist, virologist, and all round good guy.

Every single one of those Pounds are covered in blood. When the rich wage war, it’s the poor who die.

The Peace and Justice Project has a very simple mission statement:

To bring people together for social and economic justice, peace, and human rights, in Britain and across the world.

The Peace and Justice Project will back campaigns, commission reports and develop progressive networks in Britain and across the world.

The Peace and Justice Project will work with labour and social movements and provide platforms to those campaigning for change for the many, not the few.

I wanted to share something with you that was sent to me yesterday. A chap named John Lincoln was the author, from one of these pro-Jeremy groups, and this is what he said:

I am just an ordinary pensioner who has lived through governments from Attlee to the present and I have seen the repeated struggles that the left have engaged in to improve the lives of us all in that time.

Today, we are at the mercy of a rightwing Tory Party veering dangerously towards the threshold of fascism and all that that means for the lives of the many.

Jeremy Corbyn was a beacon of hope in the years 2015 to 2019 and his loss to Johnson in December 2019 was deeply felt by millions of British people. But, we are where we are and it is to the future where we must turn our attention.  Jeremy has already embarked on the next stage of his mission in life to bring Peace and Justice to all here in the UK and to influence political thinking globally.

The advent of Starmer as leader of the Labour Party and all that that has brought with it means that progressive left policies will not be part of Labour’s thinking over the next few years. But, we cannot wait until 2024 or the next GE if it is earlier, to create a force in the country for real socialist democracy and regain the initiative from those that so betrayed Jeremy and the Party and the millions of supporters in the country.

The Labour Manifestos of 2017 and 2019 should become the basis for left political thinking and, taking into account the global pandemic and its effect on the UK’s economy, left wing political leaders should now be coming together to hone  and deliver left wing policies that can again attract 10million voters and more, as they did in 2017 and ensure that with the aid of skilled communicators and modern technology the message for a better future for the many is heard and understood by everyone.

The socialist baton has been dropped and it is up to the current socialist MPs, socialist Councillors and socialist academics and the many representatives of communities throughout the UK to form the leadership necessary to pick it up and run with it and deliver a society and economy that works for the many and not just the few.

Just sitting back and waiting and complaining and bemoaning what might have been, is not an option.

Mr Lincoln, that is absolutely spot on, and perfectly relays exactly why we need a Peace and Justice Project.

Enjoy the launch of the Peace and Justice Project. Make sure you have SIGNED UP for the event. You’ve got some wonderful speakers, although Chomsky and Corbyn on the same launch? That’s not something that’s going to come along very often.

Meme makers should have enough material to keep them going for many years to come.

Now is the time for the Peace and Justice Project to pick up the baton of socialism, and carry us forward as one movement.

Take care everyone please.

  2. Typical of Corbyn to give us all hope again when we were dejected, and the world seemed hopeless. They try to knock him down, and he just stands up again. His speech today showed what a true leader is. No wonder Starmer hates him. He'll never be good enough.
